Chevy Cruze Hatchback to start at $22,190
Chevrolet will price the new 2017 Cruze Hatchback, due out this fall, at $22,190 including destination, General Motors Co. said Thursday.
The Cruze Hatchback will be available in the LT and Premier trims and with a sporty RS performance package. Chevy redesigned the Cruze for the 2016 model year and has said it will also offer a diesel version of the redesigned Cruze.
The automaker debuted the five-door Chevy Cruze Hatchback in January at the North American International Auto Show and the brand is hoping to reach new and younger buyers with the variant. Chevy has said it may also offer performance variants of the Cruze Hatch.
The Chevy Hatch is powered by a new 1.4-liter Ecotec four-cylinder turbocharged engine making 138 horsepower and features up to 47.2 cubic feet of cargo space. It is available with features such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, Teen Driver technology and wireless charging.
It will compete with the Ford Focus hatchback the Hyundai Elantra, Volkswagen Golf and Mazda3. A new 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback also is due out later this year and will feature a 1.5-liter turbo engine with either a six-speed manual or continuously variable transmission.
Chevy has not said what it expects the percentage of its hatchback sales to represent, but the Focus hatch totals about 40 percent of Focus sales. IHS Automotive predicts hatchbacks will grow to 5.8 percent of U.S. industry sales in 2018, up from about 5 percent today.
The Cruze Hatch will be built at GM’s Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico and will be sold globally.
