MI Dream Home: Saugatuck house is quintessential 'beach home'
A captivating cottage in Saugatuck that offers a view of Lake Michigan is on the market.
“It’s what I’d call the quintessential Lake Michigan beach home,” said Andrea Crossman with Beacon Sotheby's International Realty in Holland. “The home is extremely charming, and the low bluff is what attracts so many people.”
Located on Shorewood Drive, the 2,290-square-foot house has four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a private beach. It's listed for $1.75 million.
Built in 1936, the home is perched on a lot that’s about a third of an acre and sits less than 300 feet from the Lake Michigan shoreline. The home has been owned by the same family since it was built, according to Crossman.
Inside, it boasts a two-story living area with a stone, natural gas-fueled fireplace, which “is a stand-out feature,” she said. “And the loft living area above and facing the lake is a favorite gathering spot to read, play games or gaze out at the water and the sunset.”
Outside, there’s a large, back wooden patio that offers a panoramic view of the lake.
Crossman also said there are paths that lead from the home to one of the few remaining ferries in the area that shuttles people and bicycles between the city of Douglas’ side of the Kalamazoo River and downtown Saugatuck and Wicks Park.
