Ikea’s Michigan store plans expansion
Demolition is underway on a building adjacent to Canton Township’s Ikea store as part of the Swedish retailer’s plan to expand its lone Michigan location.
The razing of the 30,000 square-foot building began Tuesday.
Ikea Canton opened in 2006. The 311,000 square-foot household furnishings store is adding about 44,000 square feet of space as part of the planned expansion.
The project is expected to be completed by next summer.
Officials say the store will have a reconfigured self-serve furniture area, a larger “as-is” section and an expanded home delivery space.
There are 360 Ikea stores in 45 countries, including 40 in the U.S.
