Art Van plans $18 million expansion, adding 166 jobs
Art Van Furniture plans to spend $18 million over the next two years to expand its Warren headquarters and corporate offices as it continues to grow its presence in the Midwest.
The expansion plan will add 141,000 square feet to its warehouse on 14 Mile and create 166 new jobs. Warren city leaders recently held a public hearing for a tax break on the plan.
The expanded warehouse and corporate offices "will facilitate Art Van's expansion into the Chicago market as well as markets in Indiana and Ohio," wrote Lark Samouelian, Warren's economic development director in a letter to City Council Secretary Scott Stevens.
According to city documents, the expansion will be done in two phases. The first phase will add 141,000 square feet to the retailer's warehouse, bringing its total square footage to 1.02 million square feet. The second phase involves renovating a 43,000-square-foot former strip mall into corporate office space and building a 20,000-square-foot building also for corporate offices.
Art Van has opened six stores in the Chicago area over the last couple years with two more scheduled to open this summer, one in Naperville this month and a 112,000-square-foot store in Downers Grove, Ill. in July.
