Dearborn's Mei Lin makes 'Top Chef' finals
The 12th season of Bravo's "Top Chef" cooking competition kicked off in October with two Michigan-born chefs, James Rigato and Mei Lin. Rigato from the Root Restaurant and Bar in White Lake was eliminated in the fourth episode, but he did win $5,000 in a quickfire challenge. The show, shot in Boston, is beginning to wrap up the season, and Dearborn's Mei Lin is still in the game. A chef at Michael Voltaggio's hot Los Angeles restaurant ink, Lin has excelled on "Top Chef" with her Asian-inspired dishes and cool confidence. She's won or scored high remarks in more than half of the challenges, and last week her black bean dish with poached egg and pinto bean foam won her a trip to Napa, Calif. Lin joins chefs Melissa King and Gregory Gourdet (plus one unnamed chef from the pool of eliminated contestants) in the final four for the second to last episode 10 p.m. Wednesday. The season finale is Feb. 4.

He offered to put cast members and writers who are busy working on writing skits this week in the New York Palace hotel so they wouldn't have to worry about bridge or tunnel closures. TMZ reports that Kenan Thompson and Weekend Update anchor Colin Jost were among the 15 staff members who took Michaels up on his offer. Detroit native J.K. Simmons, who is up for an Oscar for his role in "Whiplash," will host Saturday with musical guest D'Angelo and the Vanguard.
