Michigan chefs edged out of James Beard list

The Michigan chefs named as semifinalists in the 2015 James Beard Foundation Awards were all edged out when the list of nominees was released Tuesday.

Semifinalists in the Best Chef, Great Lakes category were Marc Djozlija of Wright & Company and Andy Hollyday of Selden Standard, both in Detroit, along with Myles Anton of Trattoria Stella in Traverse City. Garrett Lipar of Ferndale's Torino was on the semifinalist list for Rising Star Chef of the Year.

Chef Hollyday of Selden Standard told The Detroit News last week that it was one of his dreams just to have his name on that list.

"I was completely floored and surprised when the list came out, it came out on my birthday," Hollyday said.

"I didn't expect to make any kind of list, (I'm) super honored to be up there with all these great names. Our goal now is to continue to make that list and be a finalist one day.

"One day bring home a medal for Detroit, that would be amazing."
