BANNERS AND CRANKS FESTIVAL

at Detroit Institute of Arts

This traveling performance art festival hits Detroit this year at the DIA and other venues Thursday through Sunday. The premise is cantastoria, an ancient form of art using banners and pictures that move using a crank mechanism. There are also elements of music, and the Detroit Party Marching Band will perform at 7 p.m. Fri. in Rivera Courtyard.
