Tom+Chee to open in Troy

Cincinnati-based restaurant chain Tom+Chee will open its second Metro Detroit restaurant Feb. 12.

The 70-seat, 2,400-square-foot restaurant is located will be located at 307 E. Big Beaver. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 10:45 a.m. that day.

Company officials in a release said they “believe Troy is the perfect place” to open a store. The chain opened its first Metro Detroit restaurant in Northville in June.

The restaurants specialize in tomato soup and many variants of grilled cheese.

Originally started as a food tent in Cincinnati, Tom+Chee has seen expansive growth since the founders pitched their business on ABC’s “Shark Tank” in May 2013. The franchise now has has 170 stores under contract in Michigan and 19 other states.
