Embattled Carr Center gets $500k grant
Detroit’s financially embattled Carr Center will get $500,000 over two years from the Fred A. and Barbara M. Erb Family Foundation. The money will help fund a transformation plan for the nonprofit arts organization, which mostly focuses on African-American culture.
The Carr, which has been located in the historic Harmonie Club in the newly designated Paradise Valley, offered the city $2.5 million to buy and renovate the 121-year-old building, but was turned down by the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation.
The organization expects to move within the next year.
