‘DETROIT AFTER DARK’

at Detroit Institute of Arts

Explore Detroit’s nightlife via this photography series covering the city’s bars and nightclubs, plus quiet streets and skylines. Catch a glimpse of Patti Smith and Fred Smith in 1980 at the New Miami Bar by Sue Rynski, or early shots of the White Stripes performing at the Gold Dollar taken by Doug Coombe. “Detroit After Dark: Photographs from the DIA Collection,” opens Friday and runs through April 23. Iggy Pop

Punk legend and Michigan native Iggy Pop is in town this week for two events. Sunday he’ll be part of “Living Histories Live,” a storytelling event and live performance with Don Was at the Majestic Theatre (4140 Woodward, Detroit). They’ll be joined by guest musician Dean Fertita, also a Detroit native, who plays with Queens of the Stone and the Raconteurs, and collaborated with Pop for his latest album “Post Pop Depression.” This show is 7 p.m. Sun. and tickets are $35. Pop will appear at the Detroit Film Theatre (5200 Woodward) Tuesday for a screening of the Stooges documentary “Gimmie Danger.” He and the film’s director, Jim Jarmusch, will be part of a discussion with WDET’s Ann Delisi and the film will be shown. Theatre Bizarre concludes this weekend at the Masonic Temple.

The city’s biggest adult Halloween bash returns. This year the festivities have been expanded to cover two weekends (the first round was last week).
