Grapevine: Morrissey implores GM to use vegan leather
Morrissey asks GM to use vegan leather in cars
British singer Morrissey has issued a letter to General Motors CEO Mary Barra asking GM to include a vegan leather option in the Chevy Volt and Bolt. “More and more people are opting for vegan leather for the sake of both cows and the environment,” said Morrissey in the letter, which was distributed by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. “A staggering 51 percent of global greenhouse-gas emissions are caused by animal agriculture. Animal skins also have to be treated with a toxic soup of chemicals in order to keep them from decomposing, and runoff from leather tanneries poisons vital waterways.” The letter also says PETA has launched in investigation of Brazilian cattle ranches where the organization alleges animals are mistreated. The former Smiths frontman ended the letter saying “given that the Volt and Bolt are being marketed to eco-conscious buyers, entirely vegan options would only broaden their appeal.” Morrissey was scheduled to perform a sold-out show Wednesday at the Royal Oak Music Theatre but canceled earlier in the day because a member of his touring party is ill. The show has been postponed to Dec. 7.
Kanye West hospitalized
Musician Kanye West was taken via ambulance to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles on Monday afternoon due to stress and exhaustion, according to the Associated Press. His hospitalization comes just after the rapper canceled the last 21 dates of his national tour, including his Dec. 22 concert at The Palace of Auburn Hills. TMZ reports it was West’s personal doctor who had called 911. The police told TMZ that the call came in from Dr. Michael Farzam saying his patient was suffering from “temporary psychosis due to sleep deprivation and dehydration.” According to reports West was handcuffed to the stretcher because it is protocol when responding to a psychiatric hold. Naturally, wife Kim Kardashian rushed to her husband’s side, and her family — Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian and Kris Jenner — boarded a private jet Tuesday to join them. Leading up to this, West had displayed newsworthy behavior on stage, saying he would have voted for Donald Trump during a Friday concert, and going on a 10-minute rant about Beyoncé, Jay Z, Hillary Clinton, Mark Zuckerberg and more during a Saturday concert.
Anna Faris fined for breaking adoption agreement
Actress Anna Faris owes Kinder4Rescue, a California pet rescue group, $5,000 for breaking an adoption agreement, TMZ reports. The Chihuahua Faris adopted four years ago was found emaciated wandering the streets. According to TMZ, sources close to Faris and her husband, actor Chris Pratt, say the couple is out of town and they want to make arrangements to bring the dog home. It’s unclear if they tried to give the dog away or if it was a temporary situation. The agreement states she would have to pay a fine if she ever gave the dog to a new owner, a stipulation the rescue puts in place so they can keep track of the animal.
