Kenny Rogers brings ‘Final World Tour’ to Meadow Brook

Country legend Kenny Rogers is bringing what he’s calling his Final World Tour to Meadow Brook Amphitheatre on July 14. Tickets, $20 lawn and $25-$85 pavilion, go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday via Ticketmaster or at Call (800) 745-3000. The Country Music Hall of Famer and Grammy Award-winner has managed to chart a record each decade for the past seven and has sold more than 120 million albums worldwide. Rogers, 78, announced late last year that he would retire after this tour, saying he has “done everything I set out to do” and he wants to spend more time with his family.

Mitch Ryder to be inducted into R&B Hall of Fame

Mitch Ryder, one of the most distinctive and soulful voices to come out of Detroit’s 1960s rock music scene, will be inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame June 11, at the Music Hall in Detroit. This year’s crop of inductees also includes Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight & the Pips, the Impressions, Larry Williams, and posthumous inductees James Brown, Isaac Hayes and Mary Wells. The 5th Annual Black Tie Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Concert will take place at 6 p.m. June 11 at the Music Hall, 350 Madison, Detroit. Joss Whedon to direct ‘Batgirl’ movie

“Avengers” director and writer and “Buffy the Vampire” creator Joss Whedon is set to direct the first standalone “Batgirl” film, Variety reported this week. The Batgirl character is one of the most popular in the franchise, and debuted in comics in 1967 as Barbara Gordon, daughter of the Gotham police commissioner.

Beyoncé favorite to voice Nala in ‘Lion King’ remake

Variety is also reporting that director Jon Favreau is hoping that superstar Beyoncé will sign on to voice the role of Nala in the upcoming live-action remake of “Lion King.” No word yet on if she’s agreed to the part. Donald Glover will voice Simba and James Earl Jones has been perfectly cast as Mufasa in the Disney reboot.
