Actor and chef David Burtka to host Mott Hospital gala
Chef and actor David Burtka is set to host the Culinary Gala at this year’s CHAMPS for Mott event, a fundraiser for pediatric research at University of Michigan’s C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital.
Burtka, a native of Dearborn, is known for appearing on the CBS sitcom “How I Met Your Mother.” He’s also married to one of the show’s stars, Neil Patrick Harris.
The fundraising gala on May 20 has a unique setting: the Delta Air Lines hangar at Detroit Metropolitan Airport. A $500 ticket to the 7 p.m. affair gets one access to food from several of Michigan’s most popular restaurants, plus a live auction and dancing with the Dan Rafferty Band.
Some of the chefs and restaurants on board include Derik Watson of Bistro 82 in Royal Oak, Ji Hye Kim of Miss Kim in Ann Arbor, John Vermiglio of Grey Ghost in Detroit, Hector Sanz and Juan Carlos Negrete of La Dulce in Royal Oak, Myles Anton of Trattoria Stella in Traverse City, Nikita Sanches of Rock City Eatery in Detroit, Brian Perrone of Slows Bar BQ in Corktown and more.
Since starting 2014, the CHAMPS for Mott event has raised more than $1.5 million for programs at the hospital.
