Cedar Point unveils new coaster 'Steel Vengeance'
Media members and select roller coaster enthusiasts were treated Wednesday to a preview of the latest thrill ride to grace Cedar Point.
"Steel Vengeance" is billed as the world's tallest, fastest, steepest and longest hybrid coaster. The steel tracks are built on the frame of the former Mean Streak, which was closed in 2016.
Wednesday's riders were on hand for the park's annual media day. Cedar Point is set to open to the public for the 2018 season May 5.
Steel Vengeance will be more than 200 feet tall and the ride will last 2 1/2 minutes. Riders will board one of three trains and climb 205 feet above FrontierTown. Once they crest the lift hill, they’ll be staring straight down a 90-degree initial drop. The ride tops out at a speed of 74 mph and park officials said the new ride can handle 1,200 riders per hour.
Ticket prices for the amusement park, located in Sandusky, Ohio, said ticket prices are $72 for the 2018 season — a $5 hike from last year.
