Michael Jackson musical coming to Broadway

A new stage musical inspired by the life and music of Michael Jackson is preparing to hit Broadway in 2020. Backed by the Michael Jackson Estate and Columbia Live Stage, the show will be written by Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage and set to music from Jackson's vast catalog. 

'Black Panther,' 'Stranger Things' big winners at MTV Movie and TV Awards

The MTV Movie & TV Awards, which were broadcast Monday night, gave “Black Panther” its first taste of awards glory, with Marvel’s blockbuster taking home four honors, including Movie of the Year. The flick's star, Chadwick Boseman, earned two trophies and Michael B. Jordan won for Best Villain. "Stranger Things" was the big TV winner. The Netflix series earned awards for Show of the Year (again) and Music Moment. Awards also went to the show's stars, Millie Bobby Brown (Best Actor) and Noah Schnapp (Most Frightened Performance). 

Lawyer: Police think slaying of XXXTentacion was random

The lawyer for slain rapper XXXTentacion said Tuesday that detectives believe Monday's fatal shooting was the result of a random robbery. The rapper, whose real name was Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, was shot while likely planning to buy a motorcycle at an upscale shop in South Florida, the Associated Press reports. No arrested have been made yet.

'Family Ties' actor comes to town to raise funds for Michael J. Fox charity

Comedian and actor Marc Price -- he played "Skippy" on the 1980s sitcom "Family Ties" -- is bring his stand-up comedy tour to the Maple Theater in Bloomfield Hills for a 7:30 p.m. show on June 28. Tickets are $20 and include popcorn. Buy them at the theater box office or at themapletheater.com. Partial proceeds will benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation. 

Pastor and motivational speaker Mia Wright in town Wednesday

To promote her new book "Unthinkable," pastor and motivational speaker Mia Wright will visit Detroit Wednesday from 3-5 p.m. at God's World Superstore, 13533 W. Seven Mile. She will speak to the audience and sign copies of her book. “Unthinkable is a powerful tool that will move you to action. Sometimes we need a push in the right direction to assure completion of the tasks at hand,” says Grammy awarding-winning gospel recording artist Yolanda Adams in a press release about the appearance. “Mia Wright has the refresher you need to ignite and inspire you to pursue your purpose right here in this book.” Wednesday's event is free and open to the public.
