“The Blue Suitcase” is the stage adaptation of Michigan Democratic gubernatorial candidate Shri Thanedar’s memoir of the same name, and it will be performed Friday in Detroit. The production tells his life journey of achieving the American dream after arriving in this country with $20 to his name and a blue suitcase. The story was adapted by playwright Jack King. It will show at 5 and 8 p.m. Friday at the Senate Theatre, 6424 Michigan in Detroit. Tickets, $20, can be purchased at d2films.com.
Weinstein lawyer says disgraced mogul still wants to make films
Lawyer Benjamin Brafman, attorney for accused sexual predator Harvey Weinstein, says the former movie mogul is still working in the industry. “He is Harvey Weinstein and despite what you may find to be his flaws, he is a brilliant maker of movie,” Brafman said just after Weinstein pleaded not guilty in Manhattan Supreme Court to an additional indictment that could land him up to life in prison, Page Six reports. “He is reviewing scripts and trying to pursue additional projects in the future.” Weinstein was stripped of his membership to the Motion Picture Academy and was forced to step down as chairman from his film studio.
Beyonce, Jay-Z to honor Mandela at festival in Africa
Beyonce and Jay-Z will headline a special Global Citizen Festival in honor of the late Nelson Mandela in South Africa on Dec. 2. Organizers announced Monday that the Johannesburg concert is part of events marking the 100th anniversary of the birth of the anti-apartheid leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner who died in 2013. Ed Sheeran, Usher, Pharrell Williams and African artists including Wizkid, Cassper Nyovest and Femi Kuti are also set to headline. Oprah Winfrey will give a keynote address on Mandela's legacy and Naomi Campbell, Forest Whitaker and Tyler Perry are also set to host. The Global Citizen movement aims to end extreme poverty by 2030.
Kylie Jenner says she ditched her lip filler
After posting a photo on Instagram with her friend. Anastasia Karanikolaou, Sunday, Kylie Jenner's fans started chatting about her lips, which were less plump than usual. One of the comments said Jenner, 20, looked like "the old Kylie." Jenner, who is Kim Kardashian's youngest sister, replied that "I got rid of all my filler." The reality television star, who recently gave birth, has been using lip fillers since she was 17.
