Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda embarks on tour
Singer and songwriter Mike Shinoda is best known as co-lead vocalist for Grammy Award-winning rock band Linkin Park. He announced a solo tour Monday, which will touch down at Fillmore Detroit on Nov. 16. Tickets, $30-$75, go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at LiveNation.com. This is Shinoda’s first solo effort; he recently released an LP titled “Post Traumatic.” Shinoda formed Linkin Park in in the mid-1990s. The band suffered a loss last summer with the July suicide of lead singer ChesterBennington.
‘Star Trek’ plans new series with Patrick Stewart
Patrick Stewart is set to return to his role as Jean-Luc Picard in a new series of “Star Trek,” to air on CBS’ video-on-demand service. Stewart, who will also be an executive producer of the new series, played Picard on “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” which ran 1987-1994. “I will always be very proud to have been a part of Star Trek: The Next Generation, but when we wrapped that final movie in the spring of 2002, I truly felt my time with Star Trek had run its natural course,” Stewart said in a statement. “It is, therefore, an unexpected but delightful surprise to find myself excited and invigorated to be returning to Jean-Luc Picard and to explore new dimensions within him. Seeking out new life for him, when I thought that life was over.”
'Facts of Life' star Charlotte Rae dead
Best known for role as housemother on “The Facts of Life,” actor Charlotte Rae died at age 92. Her publicist confirmed that she died in her home in Los Angeles with her family by her side. Rae originated the role of Mrs. Garrett in 1978 on the first season of NBC’s “Diff’rent Strokes” sitcom. She followed the role to the spin-off “Facts of Life,” which premiered the following season. Rae was nominated for an Emmy for that part, and also earned two Tony nominations for her work on Broadway, the Associated Press reports.
Congratulations to Kenan Thompson and Christina Evangeline on their second child together. The "Saturday Night Live" star and his wife named the baby girl Gianna Michelle. Married since 2011, they also have a 4-year-old, Georgia Marie. Thompson holds the record for being the longest-running cast member of SNL with 15 seasons.
Pop star Pink has been hospitalized with a virus and had to postpone concerts on Friday and Monday. Live Nation tweeted that the singer was suffering dehydration and was diagnosed with a gastric virus.
