Asia Argento denies sexual assault claims

In a new statement actress Asia Argento denies claims that she sexually assaulted actor Jimmy Bennett when he was 17. “I strongly deny and oppose the contents of the New York Times article,” she says in a statement to journalist Yashar Ali that he tweeted Tuesday morning. “I am deeply shocked and hurt by having read news that is absolutely false. I have never had any sexual relationship with Bennett.” Argento said Bennett asked her for money knowing that her boyfriend, the late Anthony Bourdain (who died by suicide in June), was wealthy. “Anthony was afraid of the possible negative publicity that such person, whom he considered dangerous, could have brought upon us. We decided to deal compassionately with Bennett’s demand for help and gave it to him,” she said in the statement. “Anthony personally undertook to help Bennett economically, upon the condition that we would no longer suffer any further intrusions in our life.” They reportedly paid Bennett $380,000.
