Michigan State Fair at Suburban Collection Showplace: This annual event is a smorgasbord of wholesome entertainment including music, food, a midway, arts and crafts, a farmers market, agricultural exhibits and more. Ford Arts, Beats and Eats in Downtown Royal Oak: A juried art show and food from dozens of local restaurants and caterers are part of the draw at this annual street fest. This year's musical headliners are the Spinners and Eddie Money (6 and 7:30 p.m. Sat.) and Ben Folds and AWOLNATION (7:30 and 9:30 p.m. Sun.). 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Sat.-Sun. and 11 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Mon. $3-$7. Detroit Jazz Festival at Hart Plaza and Campus Martius: This year's Artist-in-Residence is Chick Corea, who will perform in different combos throughout the weekend. Expect a some tributes to Aretha Franklin, too. Sat.-Mon. Free. Downtown Detroit. detroitjazzfest.org. 

Hamtramck Labor Day Festival in Downtown Hamtramck: One of the more diverse community festivals in the area, this 39th annual event is highlighted with the Polish Day Parade, 1:30 p.m. Mon. Look for a variety of food from carnival fare to Middle Eastern and Polish cuisine. Musical highlights include Shef Chura (8:30 p.m. Sat.), the Polish Muslims (7 p.m. Sun.) and Martha Reeves & the Vandellas (9 p.m. Mon.). Noon-10 p.m. Sat.-Mon. Free.
