1. DIY Street Fair in Downtown Ferndale: Handmade creations from independent makers and crafters are the heart of this annual street festival, but the food, beer and live rock ‘n’ roll doesn’t hurt, either. Musical highlights include New York City’s Too Many Zooz (9:40 p.m. Sat.) and Flint’s Tunde Olaniran (6:20 p.m. Sun.). 11 a.m.-midnight Sat. and 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Sun. Free. East Troy and East 9 Mile east of Woodward, Ferndale.

2. Parktoberfest at Beacon Park: Get into the fall spirit with a biergarten tent, fall comfort foods from the Bavarian Inn Cluck Truck, a kid zone and live party bands. On Sunday at 7 p.m. the Detroit Lions football game against the New England Patriots will be shown on a big screen. Noon-midnight Sat. and noon-11 p.m. Sun. Free. 1901 Grand River, Detroit. 3. Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day at Area Museums: Register at for free admission Saturday to a handful of participating attractions, including the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, Michigan Science Center, Detroit Historical Museum, Arab American National Museum, Cranbrook Art Museum, Anton Art Center, Plymouth Historical Museum, the Yankee Air Museum and more.
