Netflix releases new 'Bird Box' trailer

Based on a novel by Detroit author Josh Malerman, the thriller "Bird Box" will come out on Netflix on Dec. 21. This week the streaming service released a trailer for the horror flick, which stars Sandra Bullock in the lead role, along with Sarah Paulson, Rosa Salazar, Trevante RhodesJohn Malkovich, Machine Gun Kelly and others. The post-apocalyptic film also includes music by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails. Author Malerman shared his reaction to seeing his characters come alive on social media, calling it "glorious." "It's truly uncanny to recall these characters, the housemates, as I first saw them enter the book, writing at this huge oak desk on the rented third floor of an amazing home in Detroit as, yes, birds flew freely about the space," he wrote. "And voila, here the housemates move and speak without me now."

Canadian rapper dies while filming plane stunt

Canadian rapper Jon James McMurray, 34, died Saturday while performing a stunt that involved rapping while walking on the wing of a plane that was mid-flight. British Columbia’s Coroners Service says he was working with a team making videos of airplane stunts and parachuting in that province. His manager Ryan Desrochers says the rapper had trained “intensively” for the stunt, but as he walked farther out onto a wing, the small Cessna went into a downward spiral. "Jon held onto the wing until it was too late, and by the time he let go, he didn't have time to pull his chute. He impacted and died instantly," Desrochers told CNN in a statement. The plane and pilot later landed safely.
