Missy Elliot is first woman rapper nominated to Songwriters Hall of Fame

Rapper and record producer Missy Elliott has been nominated to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, the Associated Press reports. She’s the first female rapper ever nominated. “I am humbly grateful to be nominated with so many other AMAZING writers,” she tweeted Wednesday. Elliott has had several hits of her own, but she’s also penned chart-toppers for other artists including Keyshia Cole and Fantasia. If Elliott is inducted, she’ll join only two other rappers in the SHOF: Jay Z and Jermaine Dupri. Some of the other nominees this year are Mariah Carey, Chrissie Hynde, Vince Gill, Mike Love, Jeff Lynne, Cat Stevens, John Prine and the Eurythmics. Six songwriters or songwriting groups will be inducted in June.

Fans are calling Beyoncé for late support post for O’Rourke

Some fans are irked that Beyoncé waited until late on Election Day to voice her support for Senate hopeful Beto O’Rourke, who lost against incumbent Ted Cruz. A native of Houston, Bey posted a photo of herself to Instagram wearing a “Beto for Senate” hat and wrote that “we can’t voice our frustrations and complain about what’s wrong without voting and exercising our power to make it right.” Several of the comments on the post called her out for posting after Election Day was already underway.
