Leonard Slatkin says his friend, the late conductor and composer André Previn, would laugh at the screw-up.

At Sunday night's Emmys on Fox, the "In Memoriam" photo montage honored the late Previn, who died in February — with a picture of the very much still-alive Slatkin, music director laureate of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

The late André Previn is being honored - with a picture of his friend Leonard Slatkin, who is still alive.

Reached in Ireland by the "Jimmy Kimmel Show," Slatkin said, "I knew Andre was gone a few months ago. And apparently now, me too."

Of the spectacular error on the part of the Emmys, he said, "I was really quite shocked that in giving their best to André, they wound up giving their worst to me."

All the same, Slatkin said the late Previn, whom he knew well, would hardly be offended.

"They talk about people spinning in their graves," he said. "Andre’’s not spinning, he's laughing all the way."
