Big 3: Top events in Detroit Saturday and Sunday
1. Theatre Bizarre at Masonic Temple: A yearly, elaborate, costume-mandatory event that promises a one-of-a-kind masquerade experience with performers, local bands and sideshow antics plus plenty of scares and bawdiness, Theatre Bizarre kicks off this weekend. 6:30 p.m.-2 a.m. Sat. $105. 500 Temple, Detroit. Queens of Soul at Orchestra Hall at the Max: Hear vocalists Shayna Steel, Kelly Levesque and Brie Cassil belt out songs from the queens of soul and R&B backed by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Jeff Tyzik. Hear the music of not only Aretha Franklin, but Tina Tuner, Whitney Houston, Thelma Houston, Patti LaBelle, Etta James and modern divas such as Adele, Alicia Keys and the late Amy Winehouse. 8 p.m. Sat. and 2 p.m. Sun. $25-$115. 3711 Woodward, Detroit. 3. "Rent" at Fox Theatre: This Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning musical returns for a 20th anniversary lap. 2 and 8 p.m. Sat. $35 and up. The first few rows of orchestra seats are available for $25.
