The Detroit Institute of Arts will name its recently reinstalled Ancient Middle East gallery the William Davidson Gallery, in recognition of a $5 million grant to the museum’s endowment from the William Davidson Foundation, which also contributed to Detroit’s Grand Bargain.

The exhibit, which opened in October, showcases objects from the ancient Arabian Kingdom as well as from Assyria, Babylonia, Persia and Rome.

In recognition of Davidson’s career in the glass industry, the DIA is planning section in the gallery on the production of glass in the ancient Middle East.
