3 great houses will be the focus of Cranbrook gala
The Cranbrook Center for Collections and Research is throwing a gala fundraiser, “A House Party,” on June 24.
The afternoon and evening party will feature visits to three distinctive houses attached to the educational community — Saarinen House and Cranbrook House, both on campus, as well as the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Smith House about a mile away.
The Smith House, built in 1950 by two Detroit public-school teachers and considered one of the architect’s best works in Michigan, was recently donated to Cranbrook.
Distinguished guests will include Anne Smith Towbes, descendant of the home’s original owners and part of the family who made the donation.
Also present will be Virginia Fox, granddaughter of Cranbrook founders Ellen and George Booth, as well as Robert Saarinen Swanson and Karen Swanson, grandson and great granddaughter of Loja and Eliel Saarinen.
The evening will include a live auction, entertainment, music as well as fine food, signature drinks, cars, and visits to all three homes.
Tickets are $375 per person.
