Stylish John D Bistro, which opened in 2012 on Woodward just south of Nine Mile, will soon transform into a Ferndale version of Crave Lounge.

The original Crave in Dearborn is a swank sushi restaurant and hangout known for private dining and special events. John D owner Eddie Farah is excited to team up with Crave owner Thea Ramadan and bring that flair to his Ferndale spot.

“We’ve joked about opening a Crave in the John D Bistro space for a while,” Farah says. “A couple months ago, I decided that having a Crave on Woodward Avenue is a no-brainer. I would be foolish to pass on the opportunity.”

He says the Ferndale Crave will have the same award-winning sushi, full dinner menu and craft cocktails as the Dearborn restaurant.

The timeline and details of the changeover are still being hammered out. For now, Farah stresses that John D’s menu — modern American cuisine — will be available for a few more weeks until the change to Crave is nearly finished. Wednesdays are a popular time to visit; bottles of wine are half off with entree purchase.

Two James offers food truck dining for anniversary

Celebrating its one-year anniversary this week, Corktown’s Two James Spirits has grown as a hot spot for craft cocktails over the past 12 months. Now the distillery has teamed up with Chef Brad Greenhill to offer customers Thai cuisine to go with their expertly mixed beverages.

Greenhill’s Katoi food truck will serve noodle and rice dishes from the back of Two James’ tasting room from 5-11 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday. When the weather is nice, folks can even sit out in the back lot and eat outside.

Try the Phat Hua Khaerot, which is charred carrots with lime, peanuts and coconut, or the Kuaytiaw Ban Thuk, rice noodles with pork five ways and herbs. Both sound like they’d pair nicely with Two James’ Rosemary’s Baby, a cocktail made with their 28 Island Vodka, rosemary syrup, fresh grapefruit juice and soda.

Deliciously brief

■Bagger Dave’s Michigan locations launched a fall menu last week that includes a “create your own fries” option, a chicken Sriracha sandwich, naan bread and more.

■Chickpea Kitchen recently opened at 39525 Mound in Sterling Heights. Boasting fast and fresh Middle Eastern food, the cafe is assembly line style. Customers decide if they want a pita or bowl, and then fill it with their choice of meat or falafel and other add-ons like hummus, tahini and rice. Chickpea Kitchen also has soups, salads and dips.

■Royal Oak beer bar Ale Mary’s has started a weekday happy hour. From 4-6 p.m. Mon.-Fri., get $1 off Michigan beer in draft or bottle and $1 off sharable plates.
