Taco Bell Cantina Royal Oak is open, but no booze yet

The first local Taco Bell Cantina – the chain's fast-casual concept with an expanded menu and alcoholic beverages – is now open in downtown Royal Oak.

Those who were hoping for a cold beer with their Crunchwrap Supreme, however, will have to wait a bit longer. The sit-down, fast food restaurant is still waiting on its liquor license. Employees at the restaurant weren’t sure exactly when the booze will start flowing, but they expected it to be in the next few weeks.

Besides serving beer, wine and alcohol, Taco Bell Cantina outlets are notably different from standard Taco Bells because the food is served plated instead of wrapped up. There’s also a menu of shareable dishes and other things you can’t get at the average Taco Bell like loaded potatoes, chili burritos and cherry-flavored drinks.

The prices for classic Taco Bell items like tacos, burritos and nachos are the same as if you went through a drive-thru location. The Taco Bell Cantina also serves breakfast starting at 7 a.m. daily.

Food can be ordered to dine in or to-go, but the alcoholic beverages must stay inside the restaurant.

Taco Bell Cantina is at 420 S. Main, Royal Oak (formerly Cold Stone Creamery). Hours are 7 a.m.-11 p.m. Sun.-Wed., 7 a.m.-3 a.m. Thurs.-Fri. and 7 a.m.-3 a.m. Sat. Alcohol will be served only within legal hours.
