Empty Bowls event helps feed the hungry
An annual fundraiser for Cass Community Social Services, Empty Bowls Detroit at Eastern Market is a chance to try a variety of food from local restaurants while giving back at the same time.
Tickets include admission, soup from dozens of area restaurants — plus cheese, dessert, beer and wine — and a hand-painted ceramic bowl to take home. The event is 5-10 p.m. Friday.
Participating businesses include downtown hot spots like Grey Ghost Detroit, Slows Bar BQ, Seva Detroit, Amore da Roma, Traffic Jam & Snug and others.
There’s entertainment, too, from local acoustic acts like A Man Named Hooper, Roll & Tumble and the Relics.
In the first two years of Empty Bowls, the event raised $60,000 for CCSS, which used the money to purchase a new kitchen and more than 47,000 pounds of food for low-income households.
Tickets are $40 in advance at emptybowlsdetroit.com or $50 at the door. The party is in Shed 5 at Russell and Alfred streets in Eastern Market. Must be 21 or older to attend.
