The riverside community of Wyandotte, with its walkable, attractive downtown strip, is celebrating the local businesses there this month with its annual Restaurant Week.

Visiting the city makes for a great day trip, especially if you’re hungry. During Wyandotte Restaurant Week, Saturday through April 14, visitors can take advantages of deals at participating businesses, including restaurants and retail.

The colorful and cheerful Angelina’s Mexican Restaurant will offer free dessert for any table that orders two entrees during restaurant week. The authentic cafe has three downriver locations, but the Wyandotte spot is at 3033 Biddle, which is the main drag and lined with shops and cafes.

Angelina’s is authentic Mexican, but also serves fusion food like Mexi-fries: French fries topped with chorizo, queso dip, pico de gallo and jalapenos. More queso dip can be found atop the quesorrita, a chicken- or steak-filled burrito doused with a white cheese sauce.

There’s no bar at Angelina’s, but if you pop next door to the Silver Ballroom there’s a full alcohol and coffee bar and much more.

The arcade bar, at 3037 Biddle, is a step back in time with vintage pinball and other games. The menu has bar snacks, wraps, sandwiches, salads and even breakfast. Complete the nostalgia trip with a $4 Faygo ice cream float.

For Restaurant Week, Silver Ballroom will package your choice of sandwich, a side and three games for $9.

More deals can be found at Sports Brew Pub, 166 Maple, which is offering specials for $5 and $10. This microbrewery also has a full bar including liquor and bottled beers, plus pizza, burgers, melts and other beer-friendly fare.

The only brewery in Wyandotte, Sports doesn’t look like the average modern brewery, and instead has a 1950s diner feel to it.

Sports’ signature brews include naked blonde, raspberry wheat, wiener dog stout, cherry ale, Irish red and 2nd Street IPA. Sip in house or grab a growler to go.

Another craft beer hub in Wyandotte is the Oak Cafe, 1167 Oak, which has been known as a well-stocked bar with independent beer labels since well before the craft beer boom.

Bobcat Bonnie’s Wyandotte, the Wine Dotte Bistro, Gizzmo’s, Nanna’s Kitchen and the Serendipity Cakery are also involved in Wyandotte Restaurant Week. For a growing list of participating businesses, visit
