Dearborn’s Brome Modern Eatery is bringing its fresh, healthy and ethical burger cafe to downtown Detroit this week.

The second Brome location will open Saturday in a 6,000-square-foot cafe at 607 Shelby in downtown Detroit. The fast-casual eatery will occupy the first floor and part of the second level, which has access to the sky bridge over Shelby. A “living wall” spans two stories near a colorful mural by Detroit artist Wetiko.

For meat lovers, Brome boasts 100 percent organic, grass-fed beef that is ethically sourced with natural ingredients, but they also have vegan and vegetarian options, including the plant-based Impossible burger patty. Brome, which has gluten-free buns, also has a fried chicken sandwich served with McClure’s pickles.

Like the Dearborn location (22062 Michigan), the downtown Detroit cafe will have a Balence Bar that serves cold-press juices made from scratch, plus smoothies, mocktails (alcohol-free cocktails) and juice shots.

A grand opening event for Detroit’s Brome is set for 6-8 p.m. Saturday with an appearance by Detroit Lions defensive end Ezekiel “Ziggy” Ansah. A portion of the opening day proceeds will benefit the Ezekiel Ansah Foundation, a group that helps young athletes achieve their goals.

“We produce our entire menu in-house, challenge ourselves to create items with specific ingredients to defy the basics of American classics, and deliver superfoods and essential nutrients that cannot be found on all menus,” said executive chef Zane Makky in a press release. The Detroit location will be led by Brome sous chef Ray Rahal, who has worked at Gandy Dancer in Ann Arbor and the Tiger Club at Comerica Park.

“Chef Ray has a way of transforming the simplest of dishes, and brings a high-end feel to fine-casual dining,” said Brome founder and CEO Sam Abbas. The Dearborn native founded Brome in 2015.

The Detroit outpost of Brome Modern Eatery, 607 Shelby, is open 10:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Sun.-Thurs. and 10:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Fri.-Sat. Balence juice bar is open 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Mon.-Fri. and 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Sat.-Sun.
