Tropical drinks and a Polynesian vibe are coming to Detroit's east side this weekend when Lost River makes its public debut.

The Tiki bar will be open 7 p.m.-1 a.m. Fri. and Sat. for a soft launch. Expect colorful, tropical cocktails and a focus on design and art. Detroit muralist known for her flower paintings Ouizi did a piece for the bar, and sign maker George Vidas created the pink neon “Lost River” sign.

The cocktail menu has nine drinks that are classics in Tiki culture like the zombie, painkiller and mai tai. Lost River, formerly Memories Jazz & Blues Lounge, also has two shareable drinks: the fugu for two and a flaming volcano bowl. Frozen drinks, and Lost River's version of the negroni and the old fashioned, are also on the menu.

The bar also serves nonalcoholic cocktails, beer and wine, and has shot-and-a-beer specials (rum or whiskey) for $7.

Lost River is the second Tiki bar to open in the past few months. Mutiny – part of the Detroit Optomist Society family of bars that includes the Sugar House, Wright & Co. and others – opened in southwest Detroit last fall.

Lost River is at 15421 Mack in Detroit. After this weekend's soft service, the bar will be open 4 p.m.-midnight Wed.-Sat. Call (313) 720-0673 or visit
