Pizza will return to the corner of Nine Mile and Woodward in Ferndale after the much-publicized closing of neighborhood mainstay Como’s last year.

Peas & Carrots Hospitality - the restaurant group behind Social Kitchen & Bar in Birmingham, Mex restaurant in Bloomfield Hills and other restaurants in Grand Rapids and Chicago – has purchased the building and will reopen in 2019 under the name Como’s with pizza and Italian cuisine.

“Ferndale is socially liberal, inviting, and aligns with our company's mission of acting as a melting pot for an eclectic group of people,” said Peas & Carrots’ co-owner Zack Sklar in a news release issued Wednesday. “We love that Ferndale wants to remain Ferndale and values those family-owned style restaurants. Even as we have grown, we've managed to retain that sense of belonging, and we know that Peas & Carrots Hospitality is a great fit for the Ferndale neighborhood.”

Peas & Carrots – which also includes Jim Bellinson and Josh Humphrey along with Sklar – has tapped one of their regional managers Michael Gray, a Ferndale resident, to oversee the new Como’s.

The plan is to move Peas & Carrots Hospitality’s home office to the upper levels of the 8,000-square-foot location and the lower level will serve as the indoor and outdoor restaurant space.
