SheWolf opens this week in Midtown with modern Italian fare
Modern Roman cuisine has arrived in Midtown Detroit with the opening of SheWolf Pastificio & Bar.
The highly-anticipated restaurant is led by chef Anthony Lombardo, formerly of Southfield’s Bacco Ristorante, who has spent nearly two years living and studying in Italy.
Lombardo told The Detroit News last fall that SheWolf, which is named after a story in Roman folkore, aims to set itself apart with its pasta program. The menu will be more modern, and less like the “red-sauce Italian” restaurants that Americans are used to.
Besides Italian dishes, the bar menu will be influenced by similar regions, with a focus on vermouth and low-alcohol spritz cocktails. Lombardo showcased some of these cocktails and dishes at a takeover stint last November at Hazel Park’s Mabel Gray restaurant.
SheWolf’s kitchen will serve 5-11 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday. The bar will stay open until midnight, and SheWolf is closed Mondays. The 3,300-square-foot space is located nearby Detroit mainstay Honest John's bar and restaurant and around the corner from celebrated hot spot Selden Standard.
The official grand opening is set for July 6, but SheWolf is open and serving this week at 438 Selden in Detroit. Call (313) 315-3992 for reservations. Visit shewolfdetroit.com for more information.
