It may seem odd to make lunch plans weeks in advance, but not regarding lobster roll week at Mudgie's Deli & Wine Shop in Corktown.

For the past few years, folks have lined up to devour the Corktown deli's fresh lobster sandwiches, made with meat delivered daily from Maine. This year lobster roll week is July 23-28, with tentative service on July 29. 

Mudgie's owner Greg Mudge says folks call the restaurant at least once a day asking when lobster roll week is. 

"There's not a day that goes by, literally, that people don't call and ask about it," he said. "It's an all-year-round thing."

Mudge orders more and more lobster each year, hoping to not run out, but usually clearing the coolers of the coveted crustacean. This year he's got 2,000 pounds on the way, which will arrive in shipments throughout the week.

Usually the sandwich is around $20, and Mudge doesn't expect that to change much this year, although he's not sure of the exact price yet because he doesn't know what he'll be charged from the supplier. A special of two sandwiches and a bottle of wine will return, price TBA (last year it was $54). 

Mudgie's will open for service at 11 a.m. each day of lobster roll week. Last year carry-out orders for lobster rolls weren't taken over the phone, and that may be the case this year. Mudge says the best way to avoid the line is to come in or visit nowait.com and put your name on the wait list. Guests can then go about their day and will be called when their table is ready. 

"The excitement over it is amazing and every year it's a huge stress but at the end of the day it's all fun," Mudge said.

In other news, Mudgie's Deli recently upped its vegan offerings, adding the plant-based Impossible burger, a vegan 1000 Isalnd dressing, vegan mayo, a vegan Reuben sandwich and more.
