Since opening earlier this summer, it's not been unusual to see a line of noodle-lovers stretching down the block outside Urban Ramen in Midtown. 

Billed as "a modern Japanese ramen bar," the cozy restaurant only has about two dozen seats and three variations of ramen on the menu, each using fresh, house-made noodles. There is also a variety of add-ons like extra noodles, marinated egg or garlic. 

Garlic edamame, Japanese fried chicken, tuna poke bowl and more are found on the sides menu. There's American and Japanese soda pop and tea, but no booze. 

This Detroit location, 4206 Woodward, is the second Urban Ramen. The first one opened in Hollywood, California, in 2014. 

It's advisable to look at the menu (urbanramen.com/menu-detroit) before heading in (or while standing in line), as you'll be asked what you what you want to eat by a host before being seated. 

The room fills up fast, too, so arrive early and notice that they're closed in the afternoon between lunch and dinner. Hours are 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and 5-10 p.m. Mon.-Sat. Closed Sundays.
