Shimmy Shack is throwing a vegan 'prom' for adults
Restaurant and food truck Shimmy Shack is hosting a vegan, gluten-free prom for adults next month.
With the theme of "flower power" the 21-and-older event on June 22 is a party where those on "underrepresented" diets can mix and mingle with others and not worry about what they can and can't eat. Attendees are invited to dress up in any kind of way that conveys the hippie theme, and there will be a prize for the best outfit.
"While there have been vegan dances in Michigan, this is the first totally vegan and gluten free prom," said Shimmy Shack owner Debra Levantrosser in a press release issued this week. "We're doing this mostly because we know it can be challenging to attend social events if you have an underrepresented diet but also because we just like to bring people together to whoop it up."
Tickets, $45, include admission, dancing, live music, a goodie bag and a buffet of plant-based, gluten-free food that includes "cheesy" spinach salad, baked noodle casserole, Indian lentils and desserts.
Attendees are encouraged to come alone, as a couple or with friends. The prom is 7:30-10:30 p.m. June 22 at the restaurant, 1440 S. Sheldon in Plymouth. Tickets can be purchased at shimmyshack.com.
