Award-winning burgers and Cuban-inspired street food will make their District Detroit debut next week with the long-awaited opening of Frita Batidos.

This is the second location for Frita Batidos, helmed by chef Eve Aronoff,  She says the restaurant will open Oct. 2 at 66 W. Columbia in Detroit near the Fox Theatre. The new spot was announced one year ago, but it's been even longer that Aronoff has been considering a Detroit location for her bright and beloved Ann Arbor restaurant.

Like in Ann Arbor, Frita Batidos will serve burgers on soft egg buns, tropical milkshakes (batidos) and loads of sides like black beans and coconut-ginger rice. Expect items for all diets, including dairy-free, gluten-free and vegan.

The 2,400-square-foot restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner daily starting Oct. 2. Hours will be 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Sun.-Wed. and 11 a.m.-midnight Thurs.-Sat.

More food businesses are expected to open in District Detroit  in the upcoming months, including a Starbucks, Sahara Restaurant & Grill, a Union Joints restaurant and national chains such as Rush Bowls and Tin Roof.
