Cantoro restaurant in Troy has closed

The Detroit News

Cantoro Italian Trattoria, at one point one of the most hotly-anticipated new restaurants coming to Troy, has closed after nearly a year and a half in business.

A call to the San Marino Club, which owns the building where the restaurant was located, confirmed the restaurant has been closed for more than a week.

Cantoro opened behind the Club building on Big Beaver Road between John R and Rochester roads in May 2018. Previously, Tre Monti Ristoranti occupied the space but closed in 2017.

Cantoro Italian Trattoria restaurant, in Troy, July 10, 2018. It replaces the shuttered Tre Monti with a simpler-but-still-upscale, menu and a toned-down-but-luxurious setting .

The space included a 120-seat main dining area, a 20-seat bar, an outdoor courtyard that seats 80, a 125-seat banquet room, 20-person private dining space and a terrace boardroom for up to 40.

The menu was similar to the Trattoria in Plymouth — which remains open. It featured antipasti, a vast pasta menu and entrees like Gorgonzola rib eye and Osso Buco. The Plymouth location is also a market and there is a market-only Cantoro location in Livonia.

Tagliatelle alla Bolognese with ground veal, beef and sausage, is a specialty at Cantoro Italian Market's new Trattoria.
