Thrillist's new beer map makes Mich. a Founders' state
We're not sure what they think of this at Michigan's other fine breweries, but Grand Rapids' Founders has been given a shout-out by Thrillist in its customized best-brewery map of the United States.
The image features each state with the label and/or logo of that state's finest. And the results are surely going to inspire debate in some locales. The selection of Russian River for California, for example, leaves out some very good breweries, from Stone to Lagunitas to Green Flash and The Bruery. We like the choice of Hoppin' Frog for our neighbors to the south in Ohio, but that leaves out Great Lakes and Fat Head, both fine in their own right. And the choice of Cigar City for Florida is a serious no-brainer in a state not known for making easy decisions.
But in Michigan? Founders gets the nod over Bell's and Short's and such beer-nerd favorites as Kuhnhenn and Jolly Pumpkin.
"It’s neck-and-neck, but we’ve got to give it to Founders, whose Kentucky Breakfast Stout has basically turned its release into a week-long holiday, and with All Day IPA being one of the best damn session beers a hop lover can still appreciate," Thrillist says.
