Dark Horse, HopCat join forces for 'Dark Saturday'

Detroit News

HopCat Detroit and Dark Horse Brewing Co. of Marshall have big plans for Nov. 28: 130 beers big, in fact.

Crooked Tree is one of Dark Horse Brewing's flagship beers.

The two Michigan craft beer powerhouses are joining forces for Dark Saturday, a World Record Tap Takeover featuring 130 varieties of Dark Horse beer.

The daylong event will break a record set at HopCat Detroit’s grand opening on Dec.13, 2014, which featured 120 varieties of beer from Short’s Brewing Co. of Bellaire.

“Dark Saturday is our answer to Black Friday,” said Mark Sellers, founder of HopCat, in a statement. “We worked with Dark Horse to design an event that brings people together to celebrate great beer, hear some great music and get people in a festive mood for the holidays.”

The tap takeover begins at 11 a.m. Dark Saturday will include a special one-day renaming of HopCat Detroit’s Huma Room into the Crooked Tree Room, which will feature 30 varieties of Dark Horse’s Crooked Tree IPA. Live music in the Crooked Tree Room will begin at 7 p.m.

If you can't go but want to follow the festivities, follow Dark Horse and HopCat on Facebook, or on Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #darksaturday.
