Metro Detroit beer makers Axle Brewing Company announced plans Friday to open Livernois Tap & Brewery in Ferndale’s south end this fall.

Axle beer, which has a production facility in Royal Oak, began distributing in retail stores and restaurants in September. They brew a red India pale ale called Ruby, a black India pale ale called Frank, plus a porter, a whit and others. Led by president Dan Riley, the team includes longtime Metro Detroit brewer Scott King.

The Ferndale taproom, located on Livernois just north of Eight Mile near the border of Ferndale and Detroit, will offer 12-15 Axle beers on draft. Besides the current lineup, there is expected to be rotating seasonal and experimental offerings.

Seating will be varied, with bar stools, high tops, communal tables and lounge seating. There will also be a seasonal beer garden and sufficient parking for both cars and bicycles.

Details about Livernois Tap & Brewery’s culinary team will be announced at a later date, but the plan is to have a beer-friendly menu.
