Ferndale's Axle Brewing Co., which closed its production facility and taproom in June, is being purchased by Eastern Market Brewing Co.

Pending an approval from the state, Axle Brewing's Dan Riley said in a statement posted to social media Friday that Eastern Market Brewing will operate both the 10,000-square-foot brewery and its restaurant Livernois Tap in Ferndale at 567 Livernois.

"My partner and I own the building and will continue to be engaged in this incredible community," he wrote. "EMBC makes killer beer, cares about the important things we do, takes care of their team and has a glorious bunch of good, kind humans who are going to build on what we started!"

Riley said more details will be announced in the next few weeks.

Eastern Market Brewery opened two years ago at 2515 Riopelle in Detroit. Its beer — Pineapple Shock Tart, Pizza Traitor, Market Day IPA and more — is served in its taproom Tues.-Sun.

In June Axle Brewing Co.'s owners announced they would shut the doors after two years of operation serving a full menu and craft beers on Ferndale's south west side. Riley cited a long construction project and lean margins as the reason for closing.
