Boxing fans may find themselves going to the movies quite a bit this year.
“Southpaw,” which opens Friday, is the first of a trio of high-profile boxing films set to open in 2015. Oddly enough, the next two are built around members of the “Fantastic Four” reboot that comes out Aug. 7.
“Bleed for This” stars Miles Teller, who headlined last year’s Oscar-nominated “Whiplash.” It tells the true story of world champion Vinnie Pazienza, who made a stirring comeback after a car crash. It doesn’t have a set release date, but is expected this year. Teller plays Mr. Fantastic in “Fantastic Four.”
“Creed’ is a “Rocky” sequel in which Sylvester Stallone trains the son of his former opponent/friend. It stars Michael B. Jordan — the Human Torch in “Fantastic Four” — and is written and directed by Ryan Coogler, who made the highly praised “Fruitvale Station” with Jordan. It’s due in theaters Nov. 25.
