Prince is headed to the Motor City for the first time in more than a decade, and he'll be here sooner than you think.

The elusive superstar announced late Friday he and his band 3RDEYEGIRL will play Detroit on April 9 at a venue to be announced as part of his Hit & Run tour. The tour, which sees Prince announcing shows with very little lead time, kicked off last month with four shows in Louisville.

Tickets go on sale at noon on Monday via LiveNation.com and through Ticketmaster; prices are TBA.

Prince's last area concerts were a run of four shows in June and July 2004, three at the Palace of Auburn Hills and one at Joe Louis Arena.

The tour comes on the heels of last year's "Art Official Age" and "Plectrumelectrum" albums, which were released simultaneously in September.

Prince's history with Detroit runs deep; the 56-year-old icon kicked off his Purple Rain tour at Joe Louis Arena with a stretch of seven shows in November 1984.
