Thirteen bands will play for 10 minutes apiece at the appropriately named No Rest Fest 2 on Dec. 19 at Tires in Detroit.

This is the year’s second No Rest Fest, named for the locally owned punk and hardcore label No Rest Until Ruin. The inaugural event was held in January at Jumbo’s, and the sequel moves the event to a bigger, more open space.

“We’re going to be able to get a lot more people in, which will be awesome,” says Tony Wolski, drummer for the Armed and one of the event’s organizers. “We’re just kind of taking everything to the extreme.”

Confirmed acts on the bill include Nice Hooves, Clear Soul Forces, the Armed, Mexican Knives, Nolan the Ninja, Reverent, Marital Vows, Golden Torso and Old Gods. More artists will be announced in the coming weeks.

The setup is simple: There’s one backline and everyone shares equipment, and acts play for 10 minutes each with 10 minutes in between.

“Everyone likes but hates music festivals, because there’s a couple bands you want to see but you have to sit through all of this other stuff, go from stage to stage and see these bands in less than optimal venue settings,” Wolski says. “Our idea was to get shared gear and have everyone play for only 10 minutes, that way you get exposed to a lot of cool stuff. And if you don’t like it, it’s done in 10 minutes.”

Tickets will be available only at the door for $5. The first 100 people will get a copy of Nice Hooves’ new album “The Gall” on cassette, the only physical copies of the album that will be produced.

Doors for the event open at 8 p.m. Tires is located at 6541 E. Lafayette.
