Computer love: Kraftwerk to headline Movement festival
Electronic music pioneers Kraftwerk will anchor the lineup for this year’s Movement festival, organizers announced Wednesday, as part of the first of two phases of its talent rollout.
Kraftwerk’s influence on Detroit techno is immeasurable, and this marks the German foursome’s first appearance at the Memorial Day weekend festival, now in its 17th year and its 11th year under the leadership of Paxahau Events.
Other acts at this year’s fest, May 28-30 at Detroit’s Hart Plaza, include Boys Noize, Carl Craig, Richie Hawtin, Kevin Saunderson, John Digweed, Seth Troxler and Stacey Pullen. Festival favorites Green Velvet and Claude VonStroke will perform together as Get Real, and Juan Atkins and Mortiz von Oswald will join forces as Borderland.
In all, 60 acts were listed as part of Wednesday’s announcement. The second phase of the lineup will be unveiled in the coming weeks.
Kraftwerk’s performance is billed as Kraftwerk – 3-D, and will encompass the group’s three dimensional visuals, which require 3D glasses. The group brought its 3D live show to Detroit’s Masonic Temple in October 2015, marking its first Detroit visit in a decade.
Movement tickets, $135 for general admission and $300 for VIP, are now on sale at movement.us.
