Besides food and art, one of the big draws of Royal Oak’s annual Ford Arts, Beats & Eats event is the concerts.

Organizers announced Wednesday that this year’s Labor Day weekend outdoor event, the 21st annual, is headlined by rock band AWOLNATION, Motown group the Spinners, ’90s rockers Everclear and Gin Blossoms, classic rock acts Eddie Money and .38 Special, plus Ben Folds, Matt Nathanson, Chris Janson and more.

Headliners perform on the Michigan Lottery Main Stage throughout the holiday weekend. Dozens of local bands of all genres will entertain on eight additional music stages.

More than 50 area restaurants will feed the thousands of hungry attendees – organizers say an estimated 400,000 people attended last year –  including Lockhart’s BBQ, Eddie V’s Prime Seafood, Café Muse, Imperial Ferndale and Goldfish Teas.

The downtown Royal Oak event also has a focus on craft beer and for the first time will offer products from Short’s Brewing Company, Lagunitas Brewing Company and Old Nation Brewing at every beverage booth throughout the festival.

Admission for Arts, Beats & Eats is free on Aug. 31 until 5 p.m., then $7 after. It’s $3-$7 the rest of the week. Admission fee supports the festival and its not-for-profit partners. Active military and veterans get in free, courtesy of Oakland County Parks.
