Name: Chirp

Line up: Jay Frydenlund, guitar and vocals; Ken Ball, guitar and vocals; Brian Long, bass; John Gorine, drums. 

Sound: Progressive rock with elements of jazz-fusion, funk and rock. 

History: This Ann Arbor-based foursome has been working hard to gain a fanbase since forming in 2015. They've already played hundreds of shows regionally and have spent some time in the recording studio. Last year they won the University of Michigan Dearborn's Battle of the Bands. 

Next: Chirp is part of the lineup on the Free Flow Festival happening Aug. 9 at St. Andrew's Hall, 431 E. Congress in Detroit. The event is a fundraiser to raise money to fight human trafficking and help local victims. The concert is 6-11 p.m. and also includes performances by local groups Brother Son, Stay Outside, Drinkard Sisters, Olivia Millerschin and Kat Sheih. Get tickets, $15 in advance at or at the venue's box office.
