Name: Ali Jackson

About: This master percussionist is a graduate of Cass Technical High School and spent more than a decade as principal percussionist and drum chair for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. He's also contributed to more than 200 albums and performed more than 5,000 concerts over his 25-year career.

Homecoming: The jazz drummer will be part of the line up of the Detroit Jazz Festival this weekend in downtown Detroit with the ensemble Ali Jackson Brings the World Home. It's his first appearance at the free, outdoor music festival as a bandleader since 1993. His Jazz Fest debut was years earlier when he was just eight years old alongside his father, the late legendary bassist and educator Ali Muhammad Jackson Sr. This year Jackson plays the Carhartt Amphitheatre Stage at at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday.
